Court Summons Matiang'i for Failing to Reinstate Kalonzo Musyoka's Bodyguards

The High Court has summoned Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet for defying orders to reinstate Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's security detail.

The two security heads have been ordered to appear in court in person to explain why they should not be cited for contempt of court for ignoring its orders.

Justice Roselyn Aburili on Tuesday directed the two to appear before her for failing to honour orders issued by the court on February 9th.

“I hereby invoke Section 30 and issue notice to show cause to the 1st and 2nd respondents to appear before court and show cause why contempt of court proceedings cannot be commenced against them for allegedly disobeying this court orders made on 7/2/2018,” ruled Justice Aburili.

Earlier, the Wiper leader's lawyer urged the court to cite Matiang'i and Boinnet for contempt, for failing to reinstate his client’s bodyguards.

Justice Aburili had on February 9th ordered the reinstatement of the former Vice President’s security detail and further barred the government from revoking Musyoka’s firearm license.

“The court quashes the decision made on January 30, 2018 withdrawing the applicant’s state provided bodyguards,” ruled Justice Aburili.

The state recalled Kalonzo’s security detail on January 30th in the build up to the mock swearing in of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
