MCA Earns Praise after Using Sh4.5 Million Car Grant to Buy a Fully Equipped Ambulance for Residents

A youthful Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Embu County has earned praise after he used his Sh4.5 million car grant to purchase a fully equipped ambulance for his constituents.

Morris Muchiri Nyaga alias Collo, a first time MCA for Kirimari, chose not to use the grant to purchase an expensive fuel guzzler for himself like his colleagues, but instead decided to buy an ambulance in a bid to boost access to affordable healthcare for residents.

Muchiri says buying the ambulance was his priority as it would help residents, mainly those residing in informal settlements and cannot afford an ambulance in case of a medical emergency.

Speaking in Embu, the 28-year-old MCA, said the ambulance will have a nurse and standby drivers. It will be just a phone call away. “It is just six months since I was elected. I have not even purchased a new car, I had a blueprint and I want to implement it. I want everyone who cannot afford to hire an ambulance to use this one. It will have a designated area where it can be accessed,” said the MCA.

“I will use my office to form friendships with people who can help improve the lives of my electorate. I will also talk to President Uhuru Kenyatta to lobby for support for my people,” he said.

This has earned him praise from residents of Kirimari, while Kenyans took to the social media to hail the move.

Dickson Ndwiga, a boda boda rider, said: “He told us that he would improve health and I believe this is a step in the right direction. Most residents especially those in informal settlements suffer in silence."
