I'm No Longer a Kikuyu: NASA Strategist David Ndii Declares As He Converts to a Luo
National Super Alliance (Nasa) strategist David Ndii has renounced his Gikuyu tribe.
In a tweet on Sunday, the chairman of Nasa people's assembly national steering committee said he is no longer a Kikuyu, noting that he had enough of the "Uthamaki" and the “appeal to ethnic solidarity.”
The controversial Oxford University trained economist further indicated that he is now a Luo.
He tweeted: "Dear #uthamaki I’ve had enough of appeal to ethnic solidarity. I hereby renounce my Gikuyu citizenship. Consider me a Jaluo and let me be."
Tasked by his followers to further explain what he meant, Ndii said the change was part of the political philosophy he subscribes to.
"Languages are historical formations that imply nothing in regards to those who speak them.
"Nor should languages in any way shackle human liberty when it comes to determining the family with which one unites one's self in life and in death," read a book excerpt he plastered as a response.
He added: "We must not abandon this fundamental principle: that man is a reasonable and moral being before he is penned up in this or that language, a member of this or that race, or a participant in this or that culture."
Here is what a section of Kenyans online had to say about Ndii's latest decision.
Atieno Okeyo tweeted: David OmoNdii welcome to Homabay County South Nyanza!"
Joyce Mmaitsi replied :"@DavidNdii
as a shemeji, I welcome you with open arms. We shall soon feast on chicken and murenda to cement this."
