Five people suspected to be members of a dangerous syndicate that has allegedly been drugging club-goers and home owners before robbing them have been arrested.

The five suspects, among them four women and a man, were busted by police officers in a guest room in Mtwapa, Kilifi County. They had reportedly booked into the room after arriving from Kwale.

They were identified as James Ng’ang’a, Joice Gituko, Susan Gachuka, Pauline Wanjiru and Ann Wambui and all hail from Nairobi.

The five were apprehended after a joint swoop involving various security agencies, who have been hunting for them since last year.

Kilifi DCIO Christopher Chesoli said valuables worth more than Sh600, 000; including over 100 stolen cell phones, laptops and DVD players were recovered.

He said the suspects have been targeting rich men in different entertainment joints. They then drug and rob them after reaching their houses.

“We recovered the type of drugs they use to fleece people and are taking them to the government chemist to establish of what type they are. They target everything in one’s house; not just cash, they even steal stationery, bedding and cutlery. When you take them back to your house, they will drug you and leave you there but make away with everything else,”said Chesoli.

“You will find a victim of this vice is not really dead but they cannot speak. So you take them to the hospital and when they regain consciousness they will narrate of how they were in a room with a certain woman and when they woke up they lacked energy and all their belongings were gone,” he added.

The suspects will be arraigned in court to face theft charges among other charges.
