John Wanjohi Mar 21, 2018

Former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru says that she will be the new Nairobi Deputy Governor following a deal reached between her and Governor Mike Sonko.

Speaking during an interview with local media on Tuesday, the preacher further revealed that she was to be Sonko's running mate in the August 8th, 2017 elections before State House operatives settled on Polycarp Igathe.

Wanjiru said there was a gentleman’s agreement between her and Sonko before their plans were scuttled by the operatives, who forced Igathe on Sonko.

"Sonko asked me to get a witness during our agreement but I said no, we were in a private meeting and God was our witness,” she said.

The Jesus is Alive Ministries preacher now says she will replace Igathe at County Hall. The deputy Governor’s seat fell vacant after Igathe resigned in January, citing strained relationship with Sonko.

She maintained that her campaigns at the grassroots immensely contributed to Sonko's victory over former Governor Evans Kidero, making her the perfect candidate for Deputy Governor post.

Wanjiru was among the 22 candidates that Sonko recently shortlisted for the coveted seat. Others included; Miguna Miguna, Rachael Shebesh and Esther Passaris.
