The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has revealed that a man accused of defrauding Members of Parliament is closely related to Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege.

Appearing before National Assembly Security Committee on Thursday, Kinoti said that the suspect, who has been using fake Mpesa accounts to solicit cash from MPs has a "special relationship" with Chege.

Ms Chege was among several MPs who had last week complained of being cyber-bullied by a conman, who used her name to solicit cash from lawmakers and members of the public.

The MPs also complained of an unknown woman who had been sending them nude photos of herself, putting their marriages at risk.

"We have done our investigations and have the details of the individual,” Kinoti told the MPs.

He added: “We have found out that he has a special relationship with the complainant.”

Among high profile individuals who are victims of the conman's operations include; National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi who lost Sh300,000, ex-Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo (Sh20,000), Cabinet Secretaries Eugene Wamalwa, Peter Munya, Margaret Kobia and Sicily Kariuki.
