Deported Miguna Miguna Refuses to Leave Dubai, Demands to be Returned to Kenya
Self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna is calling on the international community to intervene and help him return to Kenya.
Miguna Miguna says he was assaulted and drugged before being put in a Dubai-bound Emirates flight on Wednesday night for deportation to Canada.
“About 50 heavily armed thugs, led by the uniformed Somali policeman who had commanded them on Monday, wrestled me to the ground and sat on me as a group of four different thugs injected substances into my soles, arms, hands, both sides of my ribs and basically all over my body until I passed out,” Miguna said from Dubai.
Miguna, who complained of body injuries before going to the hospital, says he was treated for injuries at a Dubai hospital. “Today, at around 5:25am, after the Emirates had landed and passengers were disembarking, I regained consciousness and asked a person seated next to me, who also appeared like a flying squad officer, where we were,” added Miguna.
Miguna says he has no travel documents and has refused to leave Dubai unless he is returned to Kenya. “I want to take a flight only to Nairobi. Nowhere else!,” he wrote on Thursday from Dubai. He was holed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport since Monday night after arriving on a flight from Dubai. Immigration officials demanded he hand in his Canadian passport to be cleared into the country, but he insisted on being allowed into the country as a Kenyan, causing the standoff.Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria boarded the same flight as Miguna, and
posted a video online showing Miguna Miguna arguing with a security officer at the Dubai airport. “Do whatever you want to do, kill me if you want, I don’t fear death…so do whatever you want,” Miguna is heard saying in the video, while seated at the airport’s arrival terminal with his luggage.
Some sources say Miguna’s exit from Kenya was facilitated by the Canadian embassy, and that Canadian officials were assisting Miguna in Dubai.
