Celebrated television news anchor and presenter Larry Madowo has tendered his resignation from Nation Media Group. Madowo announced his departure from the company he has worked for about a decade in a tweet on Wednesday.

"I leave @ntvkenya as I came: humbled & grateful. The job was one of the great honours of my life. Thanks to everyone who watched, and to Nation for the privilege of the opportunity."

"I’m proud of my amazing colleagues & everything we accomplished. Farewell, my friends. Stay woke," he added.

His resignation comes a day after several columnists who had been writing for Nation newspaper quit, citing lack of editorial independence in the giant media firm.

Among those who quit include; KNHCR deputy chairman George Kegoro, Muthoni Wanyeki, Gabriel Dolan, and Rasna Warah, Maina Kiai, Gabrielle Lynch, Nic Cheeseman, and Kwamchetsi Makokha.

The scribes claimed that their employer systematically placed constraints on independent voices contrary to its editorial policy.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, Nation denied the allegations, stating that it has been since inception "founded on the bedrock of independent voices diversity and freedom of expression."
