From 'Joshua' to 'Judas': Raila Supporters Turn their Backs on Him
National Super Alliance (Nasa) supporters have lost faith in their leader Raila Odinga if the responses to his Easter message are anything to go by.
Many of his supporters who commented on his Easter message posted in his social media pages on Friday said that the Opposition leader betrayed them with the handshake and unity pact with President Kenyatta.
Others accused him of abandoning self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna, who sacrificed to administer an oath on him as people's president.
Miguna was on Wednesday night deported for the second time after he was similarly kicked out out of the country on February 6th, for administering an oath to Odinga on January 30th.
In a tweet, Raila said: "Happy Easter to all Kenyans from all walks of life. From my family to yours, I wish you the Lord's blessings."
His tweet has attracted more than twenty four thousand reactions, 14, 000 comments and over 935 shares. Most of those who reacted to the tweet likened him to the Biblical "Judas", who betrayed Jesus.
Here are some of the responses to the post:
@OsiekoDaniel posted: "The handshake should have happened today to rhyme with Judas's actions."
@Babiebianca11 noted: "You are more than Judas....you couldn't fight for our own Miguna Miguna... You have already given him as a sacrifice for that fake handshake."
“Sir, we want Miguna Miguna back to his birthplace. I am your diehard supporter, but if you cannot stand up and defend those who can die supporting you, then we feel abandoned," Brian Omare said.
“This Easter message is ill-timed with Miguna still suffering in some far away land in the hands of despots. Do something, baba. Your supporters are not happy. It is difficult to pretend," Marcus Garvey noted.
Mwero Mangale said :"We from the larger coastal region say NO to a fake handshake. We have withdrawn our political support en masse."
Awuor Okello noted: "As you celebrate your Easter, remember we still have Judas amongst us and that Judas is Raila Amollo Odinga. We want MM back."
Allan Cyril commented: "I have just realized we have over-celebrated your achievement in the 90s but there's nothing new you are doing for this generation. Just go home and let Miguna lead us."
During last year's presidential elections, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader had referred himself as the biblical "Joshua", who led Israelites to promised land.
