Matiang'i: How Miguna Miguna Can Return to Kenya Immediately

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has revealed how deported lawyer Miguna Miguna can easily be allowed to enter Kenya.

Speaking when he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Administration on Tuesday, the CS said that Miguna can easily regularize his Kenyan citizenship online from Canada and return to the country immediately.

"Miguna can fill the relevant immigration form to apply for citizenship. He can even return to the country as soon as this afternoon as long as the forms are filled. It's as simple as that," he told the committee.

Matiang'i denied that the government acted against the law in denying the self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general entry into the country when he landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday last week.

"What we did was in compliance with the Immigration laws. No one is exempt. The Pope had his passport stamped on entry, President Obama had his passport stamped on entry. Even President Kenyatta had his passport stamped on entry last night on arrival from Mozambique."

The Interior CS further denied claims that Miguna was deported to Dubai on Wednesday last week, stating that the government only sent him to back to his last port of departure - Dubai

“If he (Miguna) was deported I would have had to sign a deportation order," Matiang'i told the committee.

He added: “He was not in Kenya, he had not been cleared so he was not in our custody or jurisdiction . He was a passenger on transit who did not identify himself."

"Miguna was not deported. We removed Miguna as an undocumented, unestablished passenger on transit to his last port of call," he stated.

On allegations that Miguna was tranquilized before being forced into the Dubai-bound Emirates airline flight, Matiang'i stated: "I don't know whether Miguna Miguna was drugged, I am not aware, therefore, I can't respond to that question because I don't know."

The House team had summoned Matiang'i alongside Immigration Principal Secretary Gordon Kihalangwa and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to explain the fiery lawyer's second deportation.
