17 People Confirmed Dead as Bus Plunges into River Siyiabei in Narok
At least 17 people have lost their lives after a bus they were travelling in lost control and plunged into River Siyiabei along Narok- Maai Mahiu highway.
Confirming the incident, Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya said the 63-seater bus was headed to Nairobi from Homa Bay County when the accident happened.
Eye witnesses said the driver was trying to avoid a collision with a construction truck which was joining the road, but he lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the river.
More than 40 people sustained injuries and were rushed to the Narok Referral Hospital for treatment.
A team of police officers and the Kenya Red Cross officials arrived at the scene to lead a rescue operation. Natembeya said the bus belonging to Daima Connection Sacco was being driven at high speed.
