I'm Preparing to take Over the Government in 2022, Raila Tells Supporters
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has opened up on his recent dalliance with his past political nemesis including President Uhuru Kenyatta and retired presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
Speaking to leaders and supporters from Western Kenya region, Odinga sought to explain his sudden change of hard stance towards the Jubilee government, electoral reforms and injustices.
Raila dismissed critics who termed his recent actions as a betrayal, stating that he is gathering momentum to take over from president Kenyatta in 2022.
“You must play politics using your brains, I am preparing the way for us to take over the government in 2022,” he said.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader said he also choose peace so that the government would stop starving Opposition zones including Western of development projects for another five years.
“We want to engage in politics of development, not tribal wars that would lead to ethnic profiling,” said Raila.
“People should stop calling me a traitor over the handshake, I have no intentions of leaving NASA,” he added.
Raila, who addressed mourners during the funeral of Shinyalu Member of Parliament Justus Kizito’s mother, Regina Mmbayi at Shinyalu on Saturday, further urged supporters to rally behind him and not to worry about the handshake with Kenyatta.
“I am building bridges and making peace. We must salvage our country, which had reached a precipice and was about to tip over. This is why I am meeting leaders across the country,” said Raila.
