Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri says that the incident where an explicit video showing him naked together with an unidentified woman that went viral on social media on Tuesday was a setup by fraudsters.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, a day after the video emerged, Ndambiri said that the fraudsters wanted to extort cash from him and denied that he was involved in an extramarital affair.

“There is a group of gangsters targeting politicians and individuals they think have money in this country. The purpose of these gangsters is extortion and I am such a victim,” said Ndambiri.

“I was set up by crooks who took me through a very agonizing moment and right now what matters to me most is about my family and the people of Kirinyaga who look unto me for guidance and leadership.”

He revealed that the incident happened in Thika town last weekend, where he was accosted by gangsters who forced him into a guest room with the said woman.

He says that the cons forced them to strip naked as they filmed the incident to show that he had been busted sleeping with someone's wife.

“This is an episode that has brought a lot of shame but it has happened when people fall victims to gangsters. Anyone can fall victim and find themselves in a situation for purposes of extortion. I thank God that I am alive because these gangsters would have either killed me if I failed to comply to their demands. For me to save my neck I had to comply,” stated Ndambiri.

The DG was speaking at the Thika Police Station where he recorded a statement over the incident.

“I do not know the woman nor do I have a relationship with her, I was set up after I refused to part with Sh5 million,” said Ndambiri.

In the video, Njagi and his reported lover have been forced to sit on the floor of what appears like a guest room, both completely naked. The men who busted them can be heard questioning Ndambiri in Kikuyu. They ask him to introduce himself. In response, the Deputy Governor identifies himself as Ndambiri Njagi, a businessman.

However, the men seem to be aware that he is Anne Waiguru's deputy, and ask him why he left the name Peter while introducing himself amid slapping him.

He confesses that he has slept with the woman countless times and that he didn't know she was married. He also says that he had planned to visit the woman's parents for dowry talks and apologizes to the husband.

"I want to tell that man that I'm very sorry. I did not know she is married, I was even planning to meet her family," he says in the video.
