Raila to Run for Presidency in 2022, Siaya Senator James Orengo Says
Siaya senator James Orengo says that Opposition leader Raila Odinga will run for Presidency during 2022 elections following his March 9th handshake with President Uhuru.
The Senate Leader of Minority said that Raila's handshake with President Kenyatta will be key to his presidential bid in the next elections. Orengo further noted that the strategies adopted in the pact will boost the Opposition leader's quest to take over the country's leadership in 2022.
“We have not yet abandoned our quest for power. We are behind Raila’s political ambition and right now we are concentrating on the deal to solve the myriad challenges that are not only denying Kenyans service delivery, but also peace and unity,” said Orengo, who spoke in Siaya.
Orengo’s sentiments were echoed by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who noted that the handshake with Kenyatta gives Odinga an opportunity to lead the country.
“With Raila working with President Uhuru he can now skin the cat,” said Sifuna.
The two hit out at those in Deputy President William Ruto's camp, who are opposed to proposal by Raila for the adoption of a three-tier system of governance.
“Duale and his cohorts want to coerce Kenyans to stand by the DP in 2022 and that’s why they are opposed to proposals that seek to introduce a three-tier government and major changes in the Constitution through a referendum,” said Orengo.
