Orengo: Raila Won't Retire from Politics

John Wanjohi May 06, 2018

Opposition leader Raila Odinga will not be retiring from politics in 2022, Siaya senator James Orengo has said.

Addressing supporters when he accompanied Odinga at the homecoming party of Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo in Suna West, Migori county on Saturday, Orengo said the Movement (ODM) leader could be the party's 2022 presidential candidate.

“Some people are saying Raila should retire, but we firmly believe he has not accomplished his goal,” Orengo said at the homecoming ceremony for Migori Woman Rep Pamela Odhiambo.
“It is the swearing in ceremony as the people’s president that brought the handshake, we won’t be tired until the day he will hold the Bible to enter State House,” Orengo said.

Speaking at the same function, Odinga appeared to echo Orengo's sentiments when he stated that the journey they commenced was still on course.

“You saw me put my life on the line and even take oath of office amid gunshots and unrelenting teargas. That journey we started is still on course," Raila noted, assuring his supporters that his promised journey to “Canaan” was still on.

He also hit out at critics of his March 9th handshake with President Kenyatta, stating that it is meant to benefit all Kenyans.

“I am a skilled politician who loves the country. We could not continue to pull Kenya apart and that’s why we looked for each other. Whoever plays politics without tact ni pumbavu (stupid),” Odinga said.

“People who are asking me why I engaged the President alone should instead seek from me the goodies that our talk has brought. I went alone because they were still asleep,” he asserted.

“Do not ask your father why he went out to look for food alone. Ask him instead what he has brought from his trip,” he explained to the cheering crowd.
