Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday caused drama at a function presided over by President Kenyatta when the master of ceremony failed to recognize his presence.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko acted as the MC at an event where President Kenyatta launched a national tree-planting exercise in Nairobi.

Usually, protocol demands that the Governor addresses the function before inviting the Deputy President, who then ushers in the President to give his speech. However, CS Tobiko failed to invite Governor Sonko to give his remarks at the event held at the Moi Forces Academy in Nairobi.

This forced the governor to rush to the dais to speak before Deputy President William Ruto made his remarks. Sonko accused Tobiko of disrespecting the county leadership following the protocol hitch.

"Hakuna mtu atadisband county government...Hii Mambo ya kudharau county government mwache (Stop this habit of disrespecting county governments)".

He grabbed the a microphone as Ruto prepared to give his address. "The programme from State House showed that the Governor was supposed to speak after prayers," Sonko exclaimed.

The governor has been accusing senior officials in President Kenyatta's administration of undermining his leadership.

On Friday, Sonko and city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi traded insults on Twitter after the lawyer suggested that President Uhuru should disband the Nairobi county, since its leadership had failed.
