Gov't Reduces Retired Presidents Moi, Kibaki Pensions by Sh15 Million
Retired Presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki are set to receive reduced pension in the next financial year.
This is after the government, through National Treasury cut their annual allocation by Sh15 million.
The Treasury has allocated Sh96.5 million for the two ex-Presidents for their pension, down from Sh116.6 million allocated in the current financial year.
This means that the two will get a monthly payout of Sh4.65 million each, which way high that President Kenyatta's monthly salary which stands at Sh1.2 million.
In 2015, the High Court blocked the government from paying allowances to the two former head of states worth millions of shillings, ruling that the move would place an "unnecessary burden to the taxpayers", but the Attorney-General appealed the ruling, allowing the two to continue enjoying the packages.
The two were entitled to Sh379,500 monthly house allowance, a fuel allowance of Sh247,500, Sh247,500 for entertainment and utilities of Sh379,500 before the court nullified the packages.
The two are also entitled to two personal assistants, four secretaries, four messengers, four drivers, and security details.
