Sonko: Why I Settled on Miguna Miguna as Nairobi Deputy Governor
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has spoken on why he settled on firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna as his deputy.
Speaking to Citizen TV on phone on Thursday, Sonko said he was committed to flushing cartels out of City Hall, and the lawyer was the best person to help him achieve that.
“I settled on Miguna Miguna so that he can help me in fighting the cartels. I know that Miguna is the number one ‘anti-cartel’ ,” said Sonko.
Citing the famous March 9th handshake between President Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga, Sonko further noted that Miguna should be forgiven and allowed to reenter the country.
“If the President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga shook hands who is Miguna not to be forgiven? Miguna called me names such as cartel, corrupt man, thief, drug dealer but let him be forgiven,” said Sonko.
“Let Miguna Miguna be allowed back to the country for him to take up this job I’m offering him to fight the cartels.”
However, the self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general earlier dismissed the nomination as a “malicious distraction.”
“Good afternoon? I have no idea what nearly everyone seems to be talking about. It’s a malicious distraction. That’s all I am saying!” Miguna said.
“Mr. Mike Sonko and I have not spoken, met or communicated since our gubernatorial debate in July 2017. I will not comment on malicious information, material or cheap propaganda circulating in the social media. Thank you,” said Miguna in a tweet.
Sonko said he will stand with the decision to pick Miguna, unless the County Assembly shoots down the nomination.
