Nairobi County Assembly to Vet Miguna Miguna for Deputy Governor Post

John Wanjohi May 20, 2018

Speaker Beatrice Elachi now says embattled lawyer Miguna Miguna will be vetted and approved by the Nairobi County Assembly once he returns to the country.

Speaking in Mombasa on Saturday, Elachi, who was accompanied by Nairobi Ward Representatives said the assembly will conduct the crucial process because Miguna is the Governor's choice for Deputy Governor post.

In an apparent change of mind from her earlier remarks, where she stated that the fiery politician must first  sort out his citizenship problems with the State, the Speaker said Miguna has a right to be nominated and the assembly will perform its duty.

"On the day he comes back, we will vet him. We have no choice... I mean, he is the Governor's choice ... we will respect that," Elachi said during a retreat of the Nairobi Assembly Liaison Committee at Flamingo Hotel.

Elachi will table Miguna's name before the County Assembly once members resume from the ongoing recess. Sonko announced he had picked the former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant for the position in a letter to the speaker last week.

The speaker also asked President Kenyatta to intervene and help end the alleged feud between Governor Sonko and some senior government officials.

"We can then agree on the way forward," she said. "We have had enough between the Governor and the Secretary(Karanja Kibicho). Uhuru should now intervene and end the fight between Sonko and senior officials within government."
