President Kenyatta Appoints Former Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura as New KRA Chairman

John Wanjohi May 25, 2018

Former Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura has been picked as the new chair of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The experienced former State official was appointed to the position by President Kenyatta in a gazette notice dated May 25th.

The Head of State at the same time revoked the appointment of Edward Sambili as KRA board chairman. Edward Sambili formerly served as Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) deputy governor and Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Planning.

The appointment of Muthaura comes months before KRA Commissioner-General John Njiraini’s exit. Njiraini has been at the helm of the Revenue authority since 2013.

" In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (3) of the State Corporations Act and section 6 (2) (a) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces appoint— Francis K. Muthaura (AMB.) to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority, up to 20th October, 2019,” said President Kenyatta in a Kenya Gazette notice.

Until his appointment, the 71-year-old has been serving as the chairman of ambitious Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) project.
