Kenyans to Stage Protests Outside President Kenyatta's Office Next Week
Kenyans plan to stage a mega demonstration in Nairobi's central business district and outside President Kenyatta's office in Harambee House next week.
During the peaceful street protest, Kenyans will demand for prosecution of officials involved in the recently unearthed corruption scandals in government institutions.
Those taking part in the protest will first converge at the Freedom Corner in Uhuru Park on Thursday morning, before walking to the city centre, Parliament Buildings, the Supreme Court and end at the Head of State's office at Harambee Avenue.
Organizers of the event; Buyer Beware Kenya, Her Voice Kenya, Spincord Kenya and One Billion Rising Revolution have called on Kenyans to come out in large numbers. A poster shared by activist Boniface Mwangi on Twitter urged Kenyans to show up and “take collective anger to the streets.”
"Active citizens have organised a protest on Thursday, 31st May, 2018. Meet up 8am, Freedom corner, Uhuru Park. Let’s take our collective anger to the streets maybe just maybe President @UKenyatta will hear us. #STOPTheseTHIEVES," read the tweet by Mwangi.
The protests come after revelations of massive looting of public funds running to billion of shillings at the National Youth Service, National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF), Kenya Pipeline company and Kenya Power.
