Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was arraigned in a Nairobi court on Monday over land fraud charges.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, the Jubilee MP was charged with several offences including abuse of office, conspiracy to defraud and forgery.

Arama, who spent the weekend at Railways Police Station in Nakuru, pleaded not guilty to all the counts and will remain in custody until Tuesday, when the court will rule on whether he will be released on bail.

Ogoti is accused of conniving with officials at the Lands registry in Nakuru to “unlawfully and deceitfully” disposes a businessman of his Sh60 million property by registering it to a different person, who would then pretend to sell it to Arama.

“Investigations by EACC revealed that Samuel Arama in collusion with officers from the Nakuru lands registry unlawfully and deceitfully caused illegal registration and issuance of certificate of lease in relation to plot no.6/95 to an alleged individual who has disowned the purported sale agreement entered between Samuel Arama and the alleged individual person,” said the DPP in a statement.

Arama  was arrested in an entertainment joint in Nakuru on Friday night alongside a lawyer and was taken to Railways police station. He was driven to Nairobi on Monday morning to be arraigned in court.
