Hotels Fully Booked in Kisumu Ahead of Former US President Barack Obama's Visit
Hotels in Kisumu have been fully booked ahead of the much anticipated visit by former US President Barack Obama on July 16th.
Speaking on Wednesday morning, Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Owili said the county is experiencing the effects of Obama's trip to the region and urged the business community to take advantage of the visit.
“The county is delighted to host the former United States leader and son of Kogelo,” he said during a Press briefing on Wednesday.
Owili said the visit by the 44th President of US presents Kisumu with an opportunity to sell her immense investment opportunities to the world.
President Obama will reportedly have a short meeting with Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyongo at the Kisumu International airport before he heads to his ancestral village, Kogelo in Siaya County.
At Kogelo, Obama will preside over the official launch of a youth resource center set up by Sauti Kuu Foundation. The organization, established by his sister Dr. Auma Obama, helps disadvantaged children and youth in the region to develop life skills.
Kisumu Tourism CEC Achie Alai said the event will be beamed live at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground for residents to watch.
Before heading to Siaya, Obama will hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi. He will travel to South Africa later in the day.
