"I'll Not Be Searched": Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga Causes a Stir at Barack Obama's Function in Kogelo

John Wanjohi Jul 16, 2018

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga caused a stir at the launch of Sauti Kuu Foundation's projects launch in Kogelo, Siaya County after he refused to go through mandatory security screening.

Rasanga, who was part of the entourage accompanying former United States President Barrack Obama on his trip to Kogelo, said there was no need of being frisked since he was the Governor of the county.

“I am the governor of this county, I will not be searched,” Rasanga told security officers conducting the search.

All guests entering the venue where the inauguration ceremony was being held were required to undergo the measure for safety reasons.

When police insisted on searching him, Rasanga walked aside to have a chat with a security official before he walked his way into the venue. His Kisumu counterpart Anyang Nyong'o went through the screening.

Kenyans took to social media to react to Rasanga's behavior, some accusing him of being drunk with power.

@petermwaurajohn said: "Exactly what ails Kenya. Pathetic!"

@mwangideloh said: "Superiority complex."

@thomskan82 tweeted: "Governor Nyong'o (Kisumu) allowed himself to be screened. So who is Governor Rasanga not to be screened. He should be humble."

@_cybergypsy said: "That process is just a quick matter..the period he wasted bargaining whether to or not to be screened was too long."
