Kenyan billionaire businessman Manu Chandaria has opened up on the simple lifestyle he leads despite being among the country's richest individuals.

Speaking onCitizen TV's Jeff Koinange Live show on Wednesday night, the tycoon said he keeps only five pairs of suits in his wardrobe.

The 89-year-old, who is reported to be worth about Sh30 billion, further disclosed that he owns only one wrist watch, which he has used for the last 65 years.

“My wardrobe has five suits. One comes in, one goes out. I give it out. It’s a lesson I learnt from Gandhi,” said Chandaria.

Chandaria's expansive business empire extends across eleven countries in Africa, his major interests being in steels, plastic and aluminum.

“If I were to live my life all over again, I would serve people more than I serve myself,” said Chandaria, also famous for philanthropy.

He continued: “Be successful and be quiet about it. Be humble always, be ambitious and stay content. Life is not just you and your family, always be available to extend a hand.”

The industrialist is married to Aruna, with whom they have two children; daughter Priti and son Neal. He lives in the Muthaiga suburb of Nairobi.
