Friends from US, UAE Will Fund My Sh18 Billion Presidential Campaign in 2022, Machakos Governor Mutua Says

John Wanjohi Jul 30, 2018

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua says his friends from the United States and other countries have offered to bankroll his 2022 presidential campaigns.

Speaking during an interview with a local FM station on Monday morning, Mutua was challenged to explain how he would raise the Sh18 billion he earlier claimed he will spend for the campaign in 2022.

Mutua said he has already saved Sh3 billion for the campaign, while his friends will donate the rest.

“I have the Sh3 billion and you see, I have been abroad for a long time. I schooled abroad. I have friends in the United Arabs Emirates, US, Japan and Hong Kong who are ready to fund my campaigns. The source of money should not worry you, join me to change Kenya," he said.

“I have so many friends who have contributed to that course. They have told me that Kenya needs visionary and young leader like me. So, I have friends who are committed to see me take that job. They are already contributing,” the governor said in an interview.

In a past interview with Citizen TV,  the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said he would be spending Sh18 billion to challenge other bigwigs like Deputy President William Ruto for the country's top seat in 2022.

"It opens the way and I have my own cash. I can compete on the same level as others. It is worth it because I'm not doing it just for me but for the people of Kenya."

"That's the kind of money needed. It is worth it if you want to move this country to a new age. You have to do it. A time comes when you say that you are doing this for the people. People have seen that I am a man of my word. My presidential bid is not a way to get a government position in future," he said on Monday.
