A majority of Kenyan women have named President Uhuru Kenyatta as the public figure they admire most, a newly released survey shows.

The study conducted by market research agency, Consumer Insight Africa sought to define Kenyan women socially, behaviorally and economically.

Results of the survey released on Tuesday placed President Kenyatta ahead of other Kenyan public figures including opposition leader Raila Odinga, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and the late Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof. Wangari Maathai.

Only four ladies made it to the list of the top 10 most admired public figures by Kenyan women, while former Presidents Barack Obama (US) and the late Nelson Mandela (South Africa) are the only foreigners.

“The easiest way to earn the esteem of Kenyan women it seems, is to be a do-gooder. Wangari Maathai and Margaret Kenyatta are in the top four, no doubt because of their celebrated works,” Consumer Insight Kenya Managing Director Ndirangu Maina said.

The research further established that 84% of Kenyan women are of the view that women should be allowed to inherit property.

Ms Ndirangu said the independent survey aimed at helping individuals and organizations better understand women and their role in growth of society and country's economy.
