Wetang'ula Downplays Uhuru-Raila Handshake, Says It Can't Solve Kenya's Problems
Bungoma senator Moses Wetang'ula has dismissed the famous March 9th handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The FORD-Kenya leader said although the unity deal between the two former political arch-rivals has lowered tension in the country, it's not the solution to challenges dogging Kenya.
“The issue of two people shaking hands is fine, it reduces the temperature… but it does not solve the problems that have brought us to where we were unless we address the serious issues,” said Wetangula while speaking at St. Mary’s High School in Busia.
“Electoral injustice must be addressed; and you will not address electoral injustice through a handshake, you will address it through reforms of the law and the constitution. That is what will help us.”
Wetang'ula further maintained he's firmly in the race to succeed President Kenyatta in 2022 and welcomed alliances with other like-minded leaders.
“In 2022, Wetangula wants to form government with others or others will form government with Wetangula,” he said.
