President Uhuru will Personally Campaign for Me in 2022, Deputy President William Ruto Says
Deputy President William Ruto says that President Uhuru Kenyatta will personally campaign for him during the 2022 presidential race.
Daily Nation reports that Ruto said this during a closed door meeting with leaders from Nyeri county at Fairmont Hotel in Nanyuki over the weekend.
The Deputy President further said that President Kenyatta supports him even after his [Uhuru's] March 9th handshake with Opposition leader Raila Odinga. Ruto assured the leaders that the handshake has not changed their shared vision with the Head of State.
“When campaigns start, the President will personally pick the microphone and traverse the country campaigning for me. On the election date, I am also assured of his vote,”an MCA who attended the meeting quoted DP Ruto.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, five MPs including Kanini Kega (Kieni), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Gichuki Mugambi (Othaya), Gichuhi Mwangi (Tetu) and Anthony Kiai (Mukurwei-ni) attended the meeting. Also present were 41 ward representatives.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, a critic of Ruto, snubbed the meeting claiming he was not invited.
“The meeting was not important given that I was not invited. Even if had received an invitation. I would not have attended,” Ngunjiri said, adding that he has nothing personal against the Deputy President.
“I have nothing personal against the DP. I only have a problem with him because it seems he does not support the President’s main agenda,” he claimed.
