Senate Pushes for Prosecution of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i over Sh1.5 Billion Land Scandal
The Senate Committee probing the controversial Sh1.5 billion Ruaraka land scandal has proposed the prosecution of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for illegal dealings.
In a damning report released on Wednesday, the Senate team further wants Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang held personally accountable for the payout in the Ruaraka land saga.
The House Committee wants the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigate and prosecute the two over illegal payment of the 13-acre land.
Matiang'i and Kipsang are accused of disregarding a quality assurance and standard assessments report that marked the Ruaraka land as public property. Matiang'i is said to have authorized payment of the land during his reign at the Education ministry.
Investigative agencies have been given a period of 90 days to act on the Ruaraka land scandal. The Senate team also wants National Lands Commission (NLC) chairperson Mohammed Swazuri and his deputy Abigael Mukolwe prosecuted.
They face charges of causing loss of Sh1.5 billion in the acquisition of the land where Drive-In Secondary School and Ruaraka Primary School sit on.
The Senate Committee has also recommended recovery of the Sh1.5 billion paid to Whispering Palms Ltd, Afrison Export Import Ltd, Huelands and their directors.
