Money or Power Won't Save You, President Kenyatta Warns Graft Lords

John Wanjohi Aug 13, 2018

You'll not be saved by money or power in the fight against corruption and impunity, President Uhuru Kenyatta has told graft lords.

Kenyatta who addressed a church congregation at Faith Evangelistic Ministry church in Karen, Nairobi said the renewed war on graft and impunity will not choose who one is or how wealthy they are.

“A time has come for us to fight impunity, no matter how powerful you are, which high office you hold, how much wealth you have, or how many people you know in high positions — that will not save you,” President Uhuru declared.

Kenyatta talked tough in the wake of demolition of multi-million shilling buildings in Nairobi among them South End Mall, Ukay Centre and Java Restaurant in Kileleshwa. The structures are said to be sitting on riparian land.

High profile state officers including Cabinet members, heads of government corporations, former and sitting Governors as well as MPs have also been arrested and charged with corruption in the past few weeks.

“We must fight impunity not because we want to destroy for the sake of it. If we do not fight impunity, we will not achieve our goals. For the country to succeed, we must fight corruption and impunity," Uhuru said. “Let’s develop a nation that has a conscience and one that is driven by God-fearing people."

“For this country to succeed we must fight corruption; for this country to succeed we must fight impunity and forces that prevent us from achieving our dreams. It doesn’t matter if you know the President or a minister. That should not be what makes us human beings. We should be ready to judge ourselves by our character,” Uhuru said.
