Opinion Poll: Deputy President William Ruto, Governor Anne Waiguru Named Most Corrupt Leaders

Deputy President William Ruto and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru have been named the most corrupt leaders in a new IPSOS opinion poll released on Wednesday.

33 per cent of Kenyans interviewed mentioned the DP as the most corrupt leader followed closely by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at 31 per cent.

In the survey, 73 percent of Kenyans said they doubt that those linked to corruption scandals will be convicted. More than half of respondents think President Uhuru Kenyatta is sincere in the war against corruption.

“Kenyans feel that the country is going in the wrong direction due to the cost of living, leadership and corruption,” Tom Wolf, IPSOS lead researcher said while releasing results of the poll.

59 percent are of the opinion that Kenya is moving in the wrong direction while 28 percent said the country is headed in the right track. 14 percent were unsure.

41 percent of participants said “big people” are derailing the fight against graft as they are shielded by those in power.

Majority of those interviewed mentioned National Youth Service (NYS) and the Kenya Power cases as the main corruption scandals at 66 percent and 27 percent respectively.

The survey was carried out between July 25th and August 2nd with a sample size of 2016. Participants were aged 18 and above and were picked from both urban and rural areas.
