Kenyans Living in Germany Hold Demos Outside Kenyan Embassy in Berlin
A section of Kenyans living in Germany on Saturday staged a peaceful protest outside the Kenyan embassy in Berlin.
The diaspora community pitched tent outside the premises housing the Kenyan embassy in protest of what they termed as poor services especially those touching on acquisition of e-passports.
The Kenyans said officials at the embassy are forcing them to fly back home to renew their passports. They also complained of harassment and delays at the Immigration headquarters in Nairobi whenever they go back home to renew the travel documents.
“Passport processing has been an issue for a long time and the question I ask myself is why? I hoped to have this question answered when President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Germany,” said a protestor as quoted by Daily Nation.
He continued: “The Kenyan ambassador to Germany said that Kenyans would renew their passports here in Germany, but this is yet to happen.”
They want the processing of the crucial documents be done at the Kenyan embassy in Berlin and at an affordable cost.
At the same time, the group hailed the renewed fight against corruption in the country and called for support to Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
“It’s good to commend the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Director of Public Prosecutions for the great work they are doing, the two need more support to do their work efficiently,” said a demonstrator.
