John Wanjohi Sep 05, 2018

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has dismissed reports linking him to the abduction and murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

The Governor, through Migori County communications director Nicholas Anyuor said the claims are meant to taint reputation.

Obado, who belongs to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), also demanded that the media stops publishing unsubstantiated allegations that he allegedly impregnated and abandoned the student.

Obado termed the ncident as a political witch hunt adding that police should be given time to carry out their investigations. He said the arrest of his personal assistant Michael Oyamo is not enough to associate him to the abduction saga.

The lifeless body of Sharon was found dumped in Kodera Forest two days after she went missing. She was reportedly kidnapped alongside Nation journalist Barack Oduor at a hotel in Rongo on Monday evening.

Sharon had allegedly met the journalist at the hotel to share her story on how Governor Okoth Obado had impregnated and abandoned her. It is at the said restaurant where the two were kidnapped by unknown men but the journalist managed to escape a few hours later.

In a statement recorded with Nyanza Regional CID Coordinator, the journalist said he managed to jump out of the moving car at Nyangweso Market Centre in Rangwe constituency. He was badly injured and currently admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

On Tuesday, police arrested Governor Obado's personal assistant Michael Oyamo in connection with the abduction.

“The matter will be expeditiously investigated and the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be made to face the full force of the law,” Government spokesman Erick Kiraithe said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has since deployed a homicide squad to Migori County to probe the death of Ms Otieno, who was allegedly seven months pregnant at the time of her death.
