Migori Governor Okoth Obado Had a Relationship with Sharon Otieno, His Lawyer Admits

John Wanjohi Sep 12, 2018

Migori Governor Okoth Obado's lawyer Cliff Ombeta has confirmed that indeed his client was in a relationship with slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Ombeta, who spoke to KTN News on Tuesday night, however maintained that the Governor is innocent and was not involved in the abduction and killing of the 26-year-old student.

"Obado knew Sharon, he has not denied that. The nature of the relationship is quite open, it was known that they had a relationship," Ombeta stated.

"The assumptions going on are trying to indicate that there is something from that relationship that must have caused the murder," he added.

Ombeta said the fact that Obado's personal assistant Michael Juma Oyamo is a prime suspect in the murder should not be used to drive investigations in a certain direction.

"By shouting that the 'masters' must be held accountable, everybody is talking from a point of ignorance not evidence," he stated adding that detectives should be allowed to conduct their investigations without influence or coercion.

"Obado is one of the people who want this thing investigated to the end. He wants the culprits brought to book," Ombeta asserted.

His remarks came after Governor Obado was questioned for close to 10 hours at the Nyanza region Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kisumu on Tuesday.
