Migori Governor Okoth Obado Hospitalized After Falling Sick While in Jail

John Wanjohi Oct 03, 2018

Migori Governor Okoth Obado has reportedly been admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after falling ill while at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.

The embattled governor is currently admitted at the KNH private wing, Citizen Digital reports.

Sources say Obado was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after suffering from what is believed to be Malaria.

Obado has been behind bars for the past one week after he was arrested and charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Last Thursday, the court ordered the governor be detained until October 8th when his application for bail will be reconsidered alongside that of his co-accused.

On Monday, the government dismissed reports that Obado is being accorded VIP treatment at the detention facility.

“We wish to state categorically that Hon. Obado has not been given any preferential treatment in terms of accommodation, clothing, feeding and visits which are all regulated in accordance to Prisons and Regulations,” said Prisons Commissioner General Isaiah Osugo in a statement to newsrooms.
