Citizen TV News Anchor Jacque Maribe to be Charged with Monica Kimani's Murder

Citizen television news anchor Jacque Maribe is set to be charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani alongside her boyfriend Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie.

This comes after investigators said they have gathered sufficient evidence incriminating her in Kimani’s killing.

“We know that she (Maribe) helped Irungu cover up the offence by burning the clothes that he wore when he committed the crime.” Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti told The Star.

Police also said the journalist gave false statement when she claimed that her fiancée had been shot by assailants on a motorcycle in a bid to cover up for him, a statement that she has since recanted.

Detectives found a firearm and a 9mm live bullet in her bedroom and established that Irungu used her car, a Toyota Allion, on the night of the crime. Kinoti said the news anchor was aware of what happened but failed to report to any police station.

“Days after she helped Irungu destroy the evidence, she did not report the incident until police arrested her. Why? We believe she was part of the cover up,” Kinoti added.

In a fresh statement after recanting an earlier one, Maribe said her boyfriend attempted to kill himself and was not attacked by gunmen.

Jacque is currently being held at Gigiri Police Station after the court allowed police to detain her for 10 days pending conclusion of investigations.

The lifeless body of Monica was found in a bathtub in her apartment in Nairobi's Kilimani estate, with her throat slit. She was killed hours after returning to the country from South Sudan where she reportedly run a family business.
