The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has ordered that Citizen TV news anchor Jacque Maribe and her fiancée Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, be charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

In a statement on Tuesday, the DPP said he was satisfied that there was enough evidence to charge the couple with the murder of the 29-year-old woman.

“I am satisfied that there exists a prima facie to warrant criminal prosecution…for the offence murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code,” the statement reads.

Following the DPP's order, the two were arraigned in court on Tuesday but did not take plea, with the judge directing they be detained until Monday to allow for a mental assessment test on Maribe.

Justice Jessi Lessit said the TV journalist cannot be called upon take plea without a mental examination and ordered the test be done at Mathari Hospital in Nairobi.

Ms Kimani was brutality killed on September 20th at her apartment in Nairobi's Kilimani area with the throat slit, hands tied body stuffed in a bathtub.
