Detectives Hunt for Nairobi's 'Flying Squad' Gang Made of 7 Rogue Police Officers
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched hunt for a gang made up of seven police officers and two civilians that has been terrorizing Nairobi residents.
Police say members of the criminal group have been robbing people in Nairobi while posing as Flying Squad officers.
On Monday, sleuths said they had arrested a police officer in connection with an abduction and robbery with violence incident. The officer is believed to be part of the gang.
The officer, by the name Constable Kelvin Ndosi, is said to have been involved in several crimes in Nairobi together with other members of the 'flying squad' gang.
Ndosi was arrested on Sunday after he reportedly kidnapped a man in Athi River, Machakos County and demanded a ransom of Sh300,000 from the victim's family.
Flying Squad boss Musa Yego says Ndosi is suspected to be among criminals who abducted the businessman at Delta Petrol Station in Athi River and demanded ransom from his wife.
Detectives say he was in possession of a firearm assigned to another officer working at Parliament Police Station. That officer has also been arrested.
A month ago, Ndosi had been arrested for allegedly stealing Sh3 million from a Mali national identified as Bathily Abdoulaye at his apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi.
