Kenyan Who Took the Viral Video of Chinese Boss Insulting President Uhuru Loses His Job

John Wanjohi Oct 27, 2018

Richard Ochieng, the man who took a video of his Chinese boss insulting President Uhuru and calling Kenyans monkeys has lost his job.

Ochieng captured Liu Jiaqi, the former Sonlink CEO making racist remarks against the President and Kenyans, leading to his deportation after the video went viral on social media.

Ruiru-based Sonlink Kenya, a company that deals motorcycles, has not renewed Ochieng's contract after the previous one expired.

Ochieng says contracts of all the other employees have been renewed except his and attributes this to the video that landed his former boss and the company in trouble.

"Sonlink failed to renew my contract. Everybody else was retained except me. I attribute that to the fact that I am the one who recorded their colleague calling us monkeys," he tells Standard Digital.

Left jobless, the 26-year-old says he has relocated his rural home in Homabay County. Sonlink declined to respond to enquiries by The Standard on why Ochieng was let go.

Last month, Sonlink disassociated itself from the remarks made by Jiaqi, terming them personal.

"Sonlink has strived to foster harmonious working relations. Sonlink Limited wishes to sincerely apologise to the Kenyan people for the utterances made in the video clip," the company said in a statement.
