I'm Not Ashamed of My Faith, Deputy President William Ruto Says over His Donations to Churches

John Wanjohi Oct 27, 2018

Deputy President William Ruto says he will continue to donate cash to churches despite questions about the source of his wealth.

Ruto says criticism will not deter him from donating money to religious institutions, stating that he was raised in a Christian family and is not ashamed of his faith.

“If not a deputy president, I would be an evangelist," he said while speaking at a church event in Karatina Stadium on Saturday.

“I know there are charges against me for helping Christians in churches. I plead guilty to the charges so there is no requirement of witnesses. I am not ashamed of my faith."

The Deputy President has donated at least Sh60 million in different fundraising events in the six months to July, 2018, according to Daily Nation.

In July, Ruto said he spends his money on God unlike his rivals and critics who give cash to witch-doctors.

“Some people have been criticising my frequent church attendance. But if you investigate these people very well, they use their money at night. They take their money to witchdoctors at night, but we take our money to church during the day for the work of God,” Ruto was quoted.

Opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga have constantly raised questions on where Ruto gets the millions he donates around the country every week on a Deputy President's monthly salary of Sh1.4 million.
