Former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae's House Help Goes Missing after Stealing Sh5.1 Million
Police are hunting for former Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae's house help who has gone missing after allegedly stealing Sh5.1 million from the former powerful politician's house.
Police say Lilian Maina disappeared with Sh2 million in cash, £20,000 (Sh2.6 million) and $5,000 (Sh508,500) which had been put in a safe belonging to Nyachae’s wife Grace Wamuyu.
Lillian is said to have stolen the cash when Mrs Nyachae travelled to the United Kingdom where her husband was receiving treatment.
Wamuyu says she opened the safe on September 28th but forgot to lock before travelling to London in September 30th.
She says she returned to Kenya on October 7th together with her husband, but realized the cash was missing from the safe the next day.
Police arrested the suspect’s daughter, Grace Mbugua after her phone record showed that she picked her mother in Nairobi and took her to Kitengela on October 7th.
“The investigation commenced and Grace Waitura Mbugua was arrested on October 29, 2018 on the strength of the Safaricom phone calls data which showed she had picked the suspect and escorted her to Kitengela area,” police say.
Grace was arraigned in court but Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot released her unconditionally as the case lacked merit.
