Kenyan Man in Sh140 Million Dubai Robbery Arrested in Nairobi

John Wanjohi Nov 09, 2018

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a second suspect in connection with the robbery of Sh140 million in Dubai, United Arab Emirates earlier this year.

28-year-old George Gitau Maina was arrested in Nairobi on Tuesday and becomes the second suspect to be arrested over the heist that happened eight months ago.

In July, Kenyan police working with Interpol apprehended Rebecca Mweni Musau and recovered Sh13 million from her house in Nairobi's Ruai estate.

Three Kenyan citizens suspected to have been involved in the robbery escaped after the incident.

Dubai police wrote to Kenyan authorities in March asking them to help in tracking and arresting the Kenyans who stole the money from a vehicle transporting cash to an ATM in a shopping mall in Dubai. One Kenyan security guard allegedly distracted his colleagues after the vehicle stopped at the mall in Deira before fleeing with the cash. A third suspect who is still at large has been identified as Mr Charles Karanja, who worked as a security guard.
