Ugandan Authorities Declare Kenyan MP Babu Owino Persona Non Grata

John Wanjohi Nov 09, 2018

Ugandan authorities have banned Embakasi East MP Babu Owino from stepping his foot into the country.

In a letter sent to Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary ambassador Monica Juma, Uganda's Internal Affairs Minister General Haji Odongo accuses Babu of undermining the legitimately elected government of Uganda.

"The purpose of this letter is to make it known that Honorable Babu Owino is officially declared as persona non grata within the borders of Uganda and will not be permitted entry without special clearance from the Ministry of Internal Affairs," reads the letter in part.

This comes after Owino hosted Uganda's Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine in Nairobi last month, where they allegedly made inflammatory remarks against President Kaguta Museveni during public rallies.

"During Bobi Wine's visit to Kenya last month, Babu hosted Wine in a number of functions and events. The duo uttered inflammatory and seditious words against the democratic and legitimate rule of President Yoweri Museveni," General Odongo adds.

Bobi Wine has found himself in trouble with Ugandan authorities in recent months over his criticism of President Museveni's administration.
