Kenyan Runner Mary Keitany Scoops 2018 New York Road Award
Kenyan runner Mary Keitany has scooped this year's New York Road Runners (NYRR) Pro Performer of the Year Award.
The 36-year-old marathoner has won the prestigious award after garnering 46.3 percent of the total public vote.
United States wheelchair racers Daniel Romanchuk and Susannah Scaroni received 16.2 and 14.1 percent of the vote to take second and third positions respectively.
"It's a great honor to win the NYRR Pro Performer of the Year award," Keitany says.
"This one means a lot because it is the fans who choose. I was pleased to win the TCS New York City Marathon and the NYRR New York Mini 10K in 2018, and I look forward to continuing my success in NYC in the future."
The other finalists for 2018 NYRR Pro Performer of the Year included Buze Diriba of Ethiopia, Rhonex Kipruto of Kenya as well as Jenny Simpson and Ben True, both Americans.
Last month, Keitany won her fourth New York Marathon title after clocking 2:22:48, the second fastest time in women’s marathon in the US. She won three straight New York marathons in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
