MPs Allege Scheme to Scuttle Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 Presidential Race
A section of Rift Valley Members of Parliament claim that there is a scheme by unnamed powerful individuals to lock out Deputy President William Ruto from the 2022 presidential race.
Led by MPs Ronald Tonui (Bomet Central) and Nelson Koech (Belgut), the MPs allege that the scheme involves linking Ruto to several corruption scandals in various government departments.
“The bashing the DP has received lately over alleged corruption links, including those from rebel MPs Joshua Kutuny (Cherenganyi), Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills) and Silas Tiren (Moiben), have the blessings of powerful individuals in the corridors of power,” says MP Tonui as quoted by the Daily Nation.
“Our colleagues have attempted to link the DP to scandals in the maize, sugar and fertilizer sectors in a bid to drive a wedge between him and his Rift Valley political base … Now we are being told there are turf wars between Mr. Ruto and Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i, who is his junior. This is sheer madness.”
Last week, reports alleged that Ruto is engaged in a fierce fight with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i over the multi-million-shilling tender for supply of new police uniforms.
Ruto's name has also been dragged into National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), illegal sugar and substandard fertilizer scandals among others.
