Kenyan-born engineer, Charles Mwangi has become the latest senior executive to resign from giant United States electric carmaker Tesla.

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) alumnus, who was a
senior director of engineering at the Elon Musk-headed company has left the position to join an unnamed start-up.

“The start-up I am joining is still under the radar, but I couldn’t be more excited to be joining this team,” Mwangi has announced on his LinkedIn account.

“In my next journey, I am lucky enough to have found that same inspiration as the early days of Tesla but in a completely different industry. A world-changing human mission. Global scale. A team with a deep commitment to excellence.”

The US automobile manufacturer hired Mwangi in 2012 and was promoted to the position of senior director of engineering in August 2018.

He worked at Toyota in Indiana between 2003 and 2005 before joining Nissan Motor Corporation in Mississippi in 2006.

He becomes the seventh top executive to resign from the California-headquartered carmaker since last year.
