President Kenyatta Ignores His Bodyguards, Drives Away to Unknown Location in Company of Raila

The relationship between President Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga appears to be growing every day following their unexpected handshake on March 9th, 2018.

Since burying the hatchet, the two have attended several functions together including a trip to Kisumu and Siaya counties last year, where they addressed joint public rallies and launched development projects.

The latest incident, which happened in Kisumu on Saturday, has confirmed that indeed, the two have completely put aside their differences.

At Kisumu International Airport on Saturday, President Kenyatta broke protocol when he left his security behind and drove away to an undisclosed location in the company of Odinga.

The Sunday Nation reports that Kenyatta was about to depart Kisumu after attending former Youth Fund boss, Bruce Odhiambo’s burial in Muhoroni when the incident happened.

At the airport's VIP section, Odinga drew President Kenyatta aside as area leaders lined up to see him off.

After a brief conversation, Kenyatta left with the ODM leader and Kisumu Deputy Governor Matthew Owili, leaving behind his security detail and without informing anyone of their departure.

The three patiently maneuvered their way through the traffic in the lakeside city to the undisclosed location.

As this happened, the President’s jet remained parked on the runway with its engine running and ready to take off. Kenyatta flew to Nairobi later in the evening.
