Raila Pocketing Sh800, 000 Per Month from Gov't after Handshake with President Kenyatta
Opposition leader Raila Odinga is reportedly pocketing Sh800,000 monthly from the government following his handshake with President Kenyatta in March last year.
The Standard reports the monthly payment is part of the hefty retirement package that he's entitled to as a former Prime Minister and which had been withheld by the government during President Uhuru's first-term.
The Retirement Benefits (Deputy President and Designated State Officers) Act 2015, states that the former PM is entitled to 80 percent of his last pay, which translates to about Sh800, 000 per month.
In addition, he's entitled to two vehicles including one four-wheel drive car, replaceable once every four years.
Other benefits include bodyguards, a fully paid office, three drivers, a personal assistant, an accountant, two secretaries, housekeepers, senior support staff, gardeners, cooks, and cleaners.
Speaking to the Standard, National Super Alliance (Nasa) Chief Executive Norman Magaya confirmed that the government has already sent officers to Raila's office in Nairobi to carry out a valuation before beginning to pay rent.
Odinga's lawyer Paul Mwangi has also confirmed the reports saying: "Mzee (Raila) is only getting what he is entitled to as a retired Prime Minister."
Odinga was in October 2018 appointed the High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa by AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki.
