Deputy President William Ruto Disowns Politicians Campaigning on His Behalf
Deputy President William Ruto has come out to disown politicians who are drumming up support for his 2022 presidential bid.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson David Mugonyi, Ruto says he has never authorized anyone to campaign on his behalf and has asked politicians not to drag his name into 2022 succession politics.
“At no time has the Deputy President approved, canvassed or engaged in any other form of preparation for a presidential or other campaign after the last Presidential Election. Secondly, he does not, and has never approved, consented to or supported haphazard, sketchy, messy, premature political canvassing,” the statement reads.
Ruto further notes that his primary focus at the moment is to support President Kenyatta to realize his big four action plan namely manufacturing, food security, affordable housing, and universal healthcare.
“At the moment, he is working to support the President to ensure that Jubilee’s transformational agenda, especially the Big 4, is fully realized in every part of the country,” he says.
“The Deputy President, therefore, asks those running noisy charades and mock-campaigns to use their energy more productively while those funding the same to find a better use for their resources.”
Ruto appears to heed to President Kenyatta's warning to leaders against engaging in premature 2022 politics at the expense of service delivery.
